DiCaprio, The Hypocrite, Grandstands Climate Change at the Oscars

Alright, Leonardo DiCaprio finally got his Oscar for his leading role in the movie Revenant.  But, instead of just accepting the award, he, like many others at that event, felt compelled to give us a lecture. His was about climate change; calling it "the most urgent threat facing our entire species."  Of course, days earlier he had given another speech at the Paris Climate Change Summit where he stated that climate action ‘requires all of us to make real changes in the way we live our lives’'.

The problem with DiCaprio is that he never practices what he preaches.  You see, Mother Nature must have given him a special dispensation when it comes to polluting the world with CO2.  That's because this climate change lecturer flits around the world in a his own private jet.  In one 6 week period he took that toy, back and forth to New York six times. Often, he uses a charter helicopter to avoid all that city traffic. He also blasts thousands of pounds of CO2 into the air keeping his 5 mansions cooled and heated year round.  Then, when he vacations, there is no limit to the number of island retreats that his private jet will take him.  Once there, there is always a CO2 spewing mega yacht at his beck and call; including David Geffen's 454 footer where he relaxes by playing basketball on the deck in Cannes.

Ah, yes.  We all should do whatever is necessary to fight climate change.  You know...to save the species. Save the world. Of course, if climate action demands real changes in our lives as DiCaprio tells us, then I can only imagine how restrictive Leonardo's life has become now with "only" one private jet, megayachts, helicopters, and 5 mansions.  It reminds me of President Obama dragging Air Force One to Hawaii for vacation(s) along with the back up Air Force one and three massive Cargo Jets holding dozens of escort vehicles.  At least Jimmy Carter had the sense to wear a sweater after he told Americans to save energy by turning down their thermostats.

Hollywood -- Home of the Liberal Hypocrites

I find it almost laughable that there is a big flap over the fact that the Oscars -- for the second year in a row -- didn't nominate a single Black person to win their coveted award.  It's not laughable that a Black didn't get nominated, but that Hollywood -- the most liberal bastion of Democratic ideals and the strongest supporters of Democratic candidates -- once again displays its rampant liberal hypocrisy.

When Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama take money from Hollywood, they seem to turn a blind eye to the fact that it consistently pays male actors more than female actors, or that there are few female directors, or as mentioned above, that the predominately white Academy doesn't recognize any Blacks worthy of being nominated. It must be difficult to rise to those lily-white standards.

Black Actors Matter: Affirmative Action Needed for the Academy Awards?

This year's Academy Award nominations are out and the race-baiting Al Sharpton is mad.  For the first time in 17 years, not one black actor or actress was nominated for an Oscar, and Sharpton is calling for emergency action against the Academy.  Whatever that means.

Are we now supposed to believe that there should be affirmative action quotas for the Academy Awards?  The way Sharpton is acting, it appears there should be at least one or two black actors or actresses nominated; even if there are better performances by white performers.  After all, blacks make up 13% or the population.  Therefore, out of the ten nominations for Best Actor or Actress, there should be at least 1.3 blacks nominated each year; and, another 1.3 blacks nominated for the best male/female supporting performances. Otherwise, the 5,800 members of the Academy are all a bunch of racists.

I think 17 straight years of nominating blacks is an excellent record for a process that is extremely subjective and elitist by its very nature.  What does Sharpton want?  Should one or two of the current nominees be booted off so that a black or two can be inserted in their places.  Are we now going to have national protests and a demonstation on Oscar night with signs saying: "Black Actors Matter".  Is Sharpton also going to demand to be involved in the nomination process; much like he forced Sony to agree that he will oversee the content of the movies they make? And, what about Hispanics?   They make up 17% of our population and, they too, were snubbed in the acting categories.  Should we now have at least 2 blacks and 3 Hispanics as nominees in all 20 acting categories each year?

This whole thing with Al Sharpton trying to paint America as a pre-1960's racist country is getting extremely ridiculous and tiring.  He is literally running crazy all over the place fighting assumed racism.  Of course, all of this is, and has been, increasingly fueled by the fact that President Obama has certified Sharpton as his go-to-guy for all things race.  But, this Obama/Sharpton relationship has backfired by making racial tensions worse.  A fact that too many polls point out. If someone "cries wolf" too often, people stop listening.  Then, if real racism does show up somewhere, nobody will care.
