Once Again, Obama Doesn't Understand Capitalism

Today, at a Town Hall meeting associated with his so-called listening (bus) tour, Obama took a lot of time out from listening and, instead, spent much of his time lecturing, blaming, and complaining. One of his "lectures" was to admonish the auto industry for focusing too much on trucks and SUVs. Chiding the auto companies, he said: “You can’t just make money on SUVs and trucks. There is a place for SUVs and trucks, but as gas prices keep on going up, you have got to understand the market. People are going to try to save money.”

Well, gee, Mr. President! Once again you don't seem to understand either capitalism or business. In capitalism, the consumer decides what "they" want to buy and the businesses will respond in kind. If a consumer wants small (dangerous) cars that are fuel efficient, they will buy them in droves and the automakers will shift their production to those kinds of vehicles.

You see, Mr. President, the people of this country like their freedom of choice; and, right now, they like trucks and SUVs. It is not normal in our society to have some crap rammed down our throats; like the mandates of ObamaCare or, even, smaller cars. Telling auto companies to only build small cars might work in some authoritarian communist societies, but not in ours!

Cash for Clunkers: A Numbers Game

If you listen to the Obama Administration, the Cash for Clunkers program is producing better than expected mileage savings. However, when Edmunds.com, an independent group, actually surveyed the auto dealerships to find out what cars were be sold and in what volumes, Edmund's survey produce a list that was out of sync with what Obama's people are reporting. In fact, there were more lower-mileage trucks and SUV's populating Edmund's top-10 lists than all those gas-miserly mini-cars that "supposedly" appear on the government's list (Click to See Full Story).

The government list is as follows:

1. Ford Focus
2. Honda Civic
3. Toyota Corolla
4. Toyota Prius
5. Ford Escape
6. Toyota Camry
7. Dodge Caliber
8. Hyundai Elantra
9. Honda Fit
10. Chevy Cobalt

The Edmund's list has an SUV on top with some other less fuel-efficient trucks/SUVs like the Ford F-150, Jeep Patriot, and the Chevy Silverado that don't even appear on the government list:

4. Dodge Caliber
5. Ford F-150
6. Honda Civic
7. Chevrolet Silverado
8. Chevrolet Cobalt
9. Toyota Corrolla
10. Ford Fusion

It just seems like we can never get the straight scoop from this new "transparent" government of Barack Obama. Nothing that they have done seems to add up and they are continually being proven to be wrong. They managed to get another $2 billion from the Senate for the "Clunkers" program because it was wrongly assumed that the program was producing fantastic mileage results. But, once again, that appears to be false. Those who have asked for specific details about the program have been turned down; and, now, we can assume why! From the Stimulus Package to the lies about their health care intentions, Obama and his people are increasing becoming untrustworthy on almost everything that they either say or do. It just seems like everything is being manipulated for the best possible political impact; and, the hell with the truth! If they can't even tell the truth about a $3 billion dollar program, what makes you think they are telling the truth about a trillion dollar one?
