With all the presidential politicking consuming our daily intake of news, one event, that should have been front and center, went by with little notice.
On August 24, North Korea launched a ballistic missile from a submarine. The missile flew more than 300 miles towards Japan before falling into the sea. Experts believe that, had the arc been higher, it could have reached a distance of over 600 miles.
This is a very dangerous move by North Korea. Subs are silent killers that are difficult to detect without airborne magnetic anomaly detection (MAD). And, then, only if the sub is within a narrow range and shallow depth for detection. A sub with a nuclear tipped missile could easily roam off the West coast of the U.S., be undetected, and put many of our cities at risk like Los Angeles, Seattle, and San Francisco.
While it is highly unlikely that North Korea has currently achieved the miniaturization of nuclear technology to place a nuke on a sub launched missile, it probably is just a matter of time before they have that technology. Add to this the obvious irrational behavior of Kim Jong-un, and our allies such as Japan could be facing a very dangerous future.

Obama and Robert Gates Memoir: "Duty"
I didn't have to read former Defense Secretary Robert Gates' memoir "Duty" to know that Obama has been playing politics with the military from the very day he became the "supposed" Commander-In-Chief. Almost every major policy change with regard to the military has been done to satisfy one or more factions of his political base. From openly serving gays; to women in the battlefield; to tighter rules of engagement that may threaten the very lives of our soldiers; to cutting half the amount of surge forces in Afghanistan; to cuts in nuclear weapons and budgets; Obama has done nothing but weaken the best military on the planet.
But the biggest weakening of our military is the loss of the very "brains" that have made it a major force to be reckoned with. In just 5 years, Obama has managed to "purge" a record 200 of the highest ranking officers and insure that another 167 never get promoted to higher levels. All because those dedicated and concerned officers dared to question or comment about any of this President's changes in policy. Of course, this purging comes from a President who hasn't fired a single, top-level person in his Administration despite the many scandals that have come to light under his watch.
Sadly, it may take years, if not a decade or more, to replace the experience and military acumen that has been lost due to Obama's failed understanding of military life and the decades of procedures that have been adopted to insure that lives are protected and morale is maintained.

Idiot Diplomacy
From this:
To this:
Apparently, Obama doesn't seem to understand who this country's real friends are. While he was yucking it up with Brazil's President Lula (top video), that same leader of Brazil, along with Turkey, were busily working closely with Iran on a nuclear exchange program that, spiced-up with some key trade agreements (Click to See Full Story: Iran seeks to boost Brazil trade as sanctions loom), would absolutely weaken any chances to impose effective sanctions on Iran to stop their pursuit of "the bomb" (the bottom video). We've just been screwed, blued, and Lula-lued over Iran. And, too, Turkey easily made us look like the world's diplomatic "turkey" over Iran.
A year and a half of holding his dumb hand out to Iran and kissing up to the left-wing, socialist behind of Lula and now this. Good going Barack! You've really got a handle on things. For sure, Iran will get their bomb now! But, maybe that's what he wanted all along. It's obvious. He had a lovely little press conference with Lula in the top video and then had no such conference with the Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu, when he visited (Click to See Full Story: Binyamin Netanyahu humiliated after Barack Obama 'dumped him for dinner'). Why Obama received so much of the Jewish vote just amazes me.
Note: This video is only available in Spanish and just the first 17 seconds are pertinent to this blog entry. No "English version" of this video was available to show the interactions between Obama and this left-wing South American leader before the start of the actual press appearance. For some reason, that interaction was specifically not shown by our mainstream American press. I wonder why?

Nukes Weren't Developed Because of Peace
The main headline on the Drudge Report this morning -- based on a New York Times story -- says that Barack Obama will announce that America will not use nukes; even in self-defense. If that's true, you might ask: Why even have them?
I am sorry. For years, the concept of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) has actually kept the world safe from the use of "any" nuclear weapons. Now, by saying we aren't going to use them, even in retaliation, is to give a green light to someone --- maybe Russia or China or some rogue state --- that we won't punish them for attacking our citizens or any of our weaker allies. But, this President seems to think he can single-handedly create a nuke-free world because he is willing to lay down his (our) weapons as some kind of lofty example to the rest of the world.
This is the liberal mentality at its absurd height. It is based on a simplistic and an almost child-like view of the world. This "lead by example" works with children and persons who can easily be moved by such a tactic. However, in the real world, the bad guys could care less. Whether you're dealing with a hardened criminal or a power-hungry world leader who is, too, a criminal, the concept of trying to lead by example is a nonsense concept. If that were such a viable solution to any criminal or aggressive behavior, we could theoretically empty our prisons. But, instead and all too often, we see that it is this simple liberal mentality that tends to send criminals back out into society so they can kill, rape, or molest again.
After all, this is the same President who, when he took office, decided to extend a hand and not a clenched fist to Iran. He thought he could prove all his predecessors wrong by being more lenient towards that country. Instead, all that stupidity got us was another year plus 3 months in Iran's continued pursuit of nuclear weaponry. Now, Obama is being forced to return to the hard line tactics of his predecessors by calling for a new round of stricter sanctions.
At what point will this guy decide he was wrong, too, on his no nuke strategy. After we are attacked and millions of Americans are dead?
To me, fools are fools because they will always keep acting foolishly. And, Obama -- first with the glad-handing of Iran and now with his no nukes plan -- is just proving that concept to be true!
