A Word About 2009

More than anytime in my life, 2009 will be a new year that presents itself with the most challenges. Like 2008, the United States is still at war in two primarily Muslim countries. Many Muslims look at us as world bullies and as hostile to their world. There is growing unrest in Iran over Israel. Israel has started this year with a war on Hamas in the Palestinian controlled Gaza Strip. Israel is possibly on the brink of attacking Iran over it's potential for "the bomb". In South America, tensions exists between Hugo Chavez and some of his neighbors. Russia is, once again, attempting to garner a military prowess on the world stage. Pakistan and India appear to be ready to butt heads again. People still continue to die in the struggle in the Sudan and Darfur. Finally, the world may be falling into a very deep global recession. In this country, many are destined to continue to lose either their homes or their jobs or both in this credit-driven crisis.

It all seems to be too heavy a burden to bear. But, we and the rest of the world will get through it. My hope for this year is that life does get better; both here and in the whole world. As a people of this ever-smaller blue planet, we should all work to make this world a better place. That's my hope for 2009.

Please have a prosperous and a happy new year!
