Click to read this amazing story about another shortcoming of the nationalized health care system in Canada: Canadian premier seeks heart surgery in US.
Please take note that the above news article says that the required surgery was "not available in his home province". However -- by implication -- the Premier's having to come to the U.S. either means that the needed surgery wasn't available in any other province of Canada or that the waiting lists were so long that he had no other choice but to come here. It could also mean that the "not available" excuse is being used as political cover due to some worry over the competency or ability of the Canadian doctors to perform this kind of procedure. Whatever the reason, it shows that "our" current system of health care trumps Canada's nationalized system.
