The Deceptive Argument That Bush Was Losing 750,000 Jobs A Month Before Obama Took Office

Over and over, again, Democrats, such as the DNC Chairperson, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, keep repeating the fact that, before Barack Obama took office, George Bush was losing 750,000 jobs per month; somehow thinking that, by quoting that job loss number, you would believe that Obama had managed to turn around a terrible unemployment situation.

But, what is not being told is the fact that the unemployment rate was still only 7.2% when Bush left office.   From there, the unemployment rate rose to a 26-year high of 10.2% under Obama.  This despite the fact that he had promised that his stimulus package would keep the rate below 8%.  Yet, for the last 41 months in a row, unemployment has stayed above 8%; a post-World War II record.  And, that's a horrible fact that the Democrats are trying to hide with that 750,000 a month job-loss deception.

What as the actual number of jobs being lost per month then? You say it's false but then don't give another number. I can only find the 750,000, but is that because people only report that one?

While the loss got bad about a year in, it was still fallout. It's not like Bush leaves office and suddenly you can right things. The trendline was bad, now it's getting better. Could it be a lot better? Maybe, btu we're all armchair quarterbacks here.

But the reason Romney keep promising 12 million new jobs seems to be because that's what they're expecting to happen in the next few years as we get caught up...so he's basically promising something that's going to happen anyway and then take credit for it. In a way I wouldn't mind seeing Obama win again just so he can take credit for those (IF they happen).

I don't know what how much of Obama's Koolaid you've been drinking but, there is no way Obama would have created 12 million jobs in a second term. He really hasn't created any jobs in the last 4 years. When he took office, the size of the civilian labor force was 154.2 million workers. As of last month's employment report, the labor force was pegged at 154.6 million workers. So, for 3-1/2 years, that's a net gain in the workforce of 400,000 workers. So, that net job growth of about 115,000 workers a year. So at the rate that Obama creating jobs, it would take just about 104 years to truly create 12 million jobs. The fact is that, for every "official" job that Obama is taking credit for, 2 more people just give up looking for work.

Maybe you haven't noticed but the economy has slowed in each of the last 3 years. You need GDP growth of 2.5% or greater to start creating jobs. The current GDP growth rate of 1.3% is a net negative to any job creation. That's why today, we have 23+ million workers who are unemployed, underemployed, or just not counted because the given up trying to find work.
